Cookie Policy
The one cookie and localStorage items Counteraxiom uses — and why.
Effective date: May 13, 2026
1. What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites work, maintain login sessions, and collect usage information. This policy explains how Counteraxiom uses cookies.
2. Cookies We Use
Counteraxiom uses two categories of cookies: strictly necessary (authentication) and product analytics (PostHog).
3. Consent & Opt-Out
The session cookie is strictly necessary for the Service to function and does not require consent under Article 5(3) of the EU ePrivacy Directive.
PostHog analytics cookies are non-essential. We honour browser-level Global Privacy Control (GPC) and Do Not Track signals — when either is enabled, PostHog will not set analytics cookies. You may additionally opt out by emailing legal@counteraxiom.com or by blocking *.posthog.com at the browser level.
4. Browser localStorage
In addition to the session cookie, Counteraxiom uses browser localStorage to store lightweight preference flags on your device. Unlike cookies, localStorage data is not transmitted to our servers automatically — it lives entirely in your browser and is not visible to us unless you explicitly act on it (e.g., enabling a feature that reads the flag).
We store the following items in localStorage:
axiom_pitchroom_seenRecords that you have viewed the Pitch Room onboarding tutorial, so it is not shown again
axiom_negotiation_seenRecords that you have viewed the Negotiation Trainer onboarding tutorial, so it is not shown again
axiom_disclaimer_pitchroomRecords that you have acknowledged the Pitch Room legal disclaimer, so it is not shown on every session
axiom_disclaimer_negotiationRecords that you have acknowledged the Negotiation Trainer legal disclaimer, so it is not shown on every session
axiom_voice_consentRecords that you have provided consent for Axiom Voice audio processing, satisfying BIPA, CUBI, and GDPR Art. 9 consent requirements on subsequent sessions
Legal classification: All localStorage items listed above are strictly necessary for the functioning of their respective features — they either enable a service you have expressly requested (tutorials, feature access) or fulfil a legal compliance obligation (consent record-keeping). They do not identify you, are not used for advertising or profiling, and are not shared with third parties. Under Article 5(3) of the EU ePrivacy Directive (and Regulation 6 of the UK PECR), strictly necessary storage does not require consent.
How to clear: You can delete all Counteraxiom localStorage data at any time by going to your browser's Developer Tools → Application → Local Storage → counteraxiom.com → Clear, or by using your browser's "Clear site data" function. Clearing these items will cause the relevant tutorials and disclaimers to reappear on next use.
5. What We Do NOT Use
Counteraxiom does not use:
- Google Analytics, Mixpanel, or other ad-funded analytics platforms
- Advertising or retargeting cookies
- Social media tracking pixels (Facebook, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, etc.)
- Cross-site tracking or device fingerprinting technologies
- localStorage for advertising, behavioural profiling, or cross-site tracking
- IndexedDB, Web SQL, or any other browser storage for tracking purposes
6. Managing Cookies
You can control and manage cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to view, delete, and block cookies. Note that blocking the session cookie will prevent you from logging in.
Browser cookie settings guides:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy if our use of cookies changes. Any updates will be reflected by a new effective date. If we ever add non-essential cookies, we will implement appropriate consent mechanisms before doing so.
